Montesano’s John Griffin III wins 2019 Little League International Good Sport Award

Montesano, WA – A Montesano Little Leaguer was selected to receive the highest award from the Little League organization.

It was announced last night at Nelson Field in Montesano that John Griffin III has won the 2019 Little League International Good Sport Award.

Montesano Little League President Steve Bove talked about what led up to John winning the award, including his fight with cancer.

Bove said that despite going through cancer treatments this season, John only missed one game and that was because he wanted to take part in the survivor lap at the Relay for Life.

John and his family will head to Williamsport, Pennsylvania for the Little League World Series in August where he will be presented with the award.

Nominations for the award could be sent in by any Little League coach, local league president, local league administrator, or district administrator.

According to the Little League website, the Good Sport Award is awarded to a Little Leaguer who has demonstrated superior qualities of sportsmanship, leadership, a commitment to teamwork and a desire to excel.

Griffin III was also presented with a Montesano All-Star Jersey that was signed by all the Montesano All-Stars and coaches.

This is the second International Good Sport Award for Montesano Little League.

Cole Daniels, who helped with the announcement for John’s award, was the 2014 Little League International Good Sport Award winner, which you can read more about here.
