Montesano eliminates Hoquiam from District Tournament

The Montesano Bulldogs came out red hot and the Hoquiam Grizzlies started ice cold in a loser-out match-up in the boys District Tournament.

This spelled a blowout that the Bulldogs had control of from early in the game as they cruised to a 66-38 victory and a shot at the State Tournament.

Montesano hit for 20 points in the first quarter led by Sam Winter’s nine, including a half court three ball at the buzzer, and the Grizzlies struggled to convert, managing just five points in the first frame.

It was more of the same in the second quarter as the Bulldogs hit for 17 to Hoquiam’s six bringing the half time score to 37-11.

Evan Bates paced the second quarter for Monte with eight points while Winter added another six.

The Grizzlies would fight back in the third quarter as they outscored Montesano 20-15 but entered the fourth still down by 21.

From there the Bulldogs stayed consistent with 14 fourth period points while Hoquiam fell quiet again and struck for just seven.

Winter finished with a game 23 points on the night and was our Domino’s Player of the Game.

Carter Olsen added 10 as the only other Bulldog in double figures in a balanced attack outside of Winter’s performance.

For Hoquiam Matt Brown led the way with 13 and Cameron Bumstead finished with 12.
