Grays Harbor Chokers take home national championships

The Grays Harbor College women’s wrestling program took home the NCWA National Championship and three Chokers grabbed national titles.

The women’s team race was not determined until the finals ended.

Led by two champions, Grays Harbor College edged Schreiner University by 2.5 points.

Grays Harbor College finished with 65.5 points, followed by Schreiner with 63 points.

Grays Harbor’s champions were Cecilia Saavedra at 101 pounds and Mariah Stewart at 191 pounds.

Both won their finals bouts by pin.

Grays Harbor’s Jackie Castro placed 2nd and Christie Hur took 3rd at 235 pounds.

Grays Harbor’s Audrey Bucher placed 3rd at 170 pounds and Cielo Villalobos took 4th at 143 pounds.

In the men’s ranks at 125 pounds, Grays Harbor’s David Campbell beat returning national champion Colton Messick of The Apprentice School, 2-0 for the National Title.

Grays Harbor’s Matthew Alejandro at 174 pounds and Octavio Alejandre at 235 pounds both placed 4th.
